Statement of terrain in UotinmäkiFin-5 2005 is closed by middle distance race in culturally and historically important scenery in Uotinmäki. Area for the terrain is 4km2 hill area where after the 25 meter hillside is quite flat top-area. Forest is dense vegetation having fir forest where visibility is limited. There have been done some open forest cuttings as usually in economy forests. There will be long grass areas, where some paths will born by orienteerers.
First part of the courses for young orienteerers (start 5) is in fine pine woods where visibility and runability are good. At the end of these courses they will join the other courses terrain. Near of the competition center are some natural protected areas which are not allowed for orienteerers. These protected areas are passed by all classes so please remember your responsibility.
Courses will give some route choices in long and also in shorter legs. There are many controls near each other so remember to check control codes. You shouldnt be frightened about mostly green coloured map because map drawer has used light green for limited visibility areas where runability is still good. It is also remarkable that unclear ways/paths are marked by white corridors inside these green areas. Some thin forest lines and paths, which are not drawn into map, are possible to realize from the map.
Chase-start is used in every class but not in children classes. Chase-start is well articulated choice for ensuring equal conditions for orienteerers. Winners have to be able to change their orienteering technique varying from open rocks to dense forests. Leading orienteerer might change in many classes because mistake in this terrain will usually lead to many minutes time loss.
